Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, has accepted an invitation from Nigerian content creator Adebayo Ridwan, popularly known as Bae U Barbie, to appear on his YouTube show, Curiosity Made Me Ask, while describing young people as the future of Nigeria and Africa.
Dangote accepted the invitation after Bae U Barbie urged him to engage more with younger Nigerians, noting that most of the billionaire’s media appearances had been on platforms not widely followed by his generation.
The skit maker explained that many young Nigerians were interested in investing in Dangote’s company and wanted opportunities to learn more about his business journey.
“Most of the interviews we’ve seen you have been on platforms that my generation don’t watch,” Bae U Barbie said before asking when the billionaire would appear on his show.
Responding, Dangote acknowledged the importance of reaching younger audiences, admitting that his generation had not done enough for Nigeria and Africa.
“Honestly, the future that we have is actually you, the youth. We, our own generation, really, we have not really done very well for Nigeria and also for Africa. That’s the truth,” he said.
The billionaire added that conversations between different generations were necessary to exchange experiences and ideas that could contribute to national development.
“So really, you are right. Going forward, this sort of audience is the audience that we, somebody like me, should actually face,” he said.
Dangote subsequently accepted the invitation, promising to appear on the programme for an open conversation about his journey, how he built his business and the experiences behind his success.
“We will come,” he said.
He also recalled how he and his grandfather once sought photographs with prominent personalities in Washington during his youth, explaining that the experience influenced his willingness to respond to similar requests from young people today.
The billionaire further clarified a viral photograph of him, explaining that he was not asking God for more blessings but expressing gratitude for what he had already received.
“I wasn’t begging for anything. What I was saying, I was just saying that, God, you have overblessed me,” he said.
